Madrid Masters: Ruud too good for Fritz, moves into last eight

Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 14 seed, moved into the last eight of the Madrid Masters by winning against American Taylor Fritz, the No 3 seed, 7-5, 6-4 at the Caja Mágica.

Ruud, ranked No 15, will face Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 9 seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Norwegian beat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 6-4) and American Sebastian Korda, the No 23 seed (6-3, 6-3).

Fritz, ranked No 4, won against Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-1, 6-4) and Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (4-6, 7-5 ret.) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
