Serb Dusan Lajovic reached the second round of the Rio Open by defeating Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 5 seed, 6-1, 6-4 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday evening.
Lajovic, ranked No 80, will play Serb Laslo Djere next.
38th-ranked Schwartzman, the 2018 Rio champion, has now lost five of six matches in 2023.
