ALERT: Norrie lifts the Rio trophy by beating Alcaraz

Cameron Norrie won the Rio de Janeiro title on Sunday evening, beating Carlos Alcaraz from a set and a break down in a wild final.

Second seed Cameron Norrie won the Rio Open tournament by edging out top seed Carlos Alcaraz 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday evening.

Norrie trailed by a set and 3-0 in the second, even serving at 0-30 while on the brink of going down 4-0. However, the British left-hander stormed back to prevail over a hobbled Alcaraz after two hours and 41 minutes.

Ahead of his victory, Norrie, ranked No 13, beat Argentine lucky loser Juan Manuel Cerundolo (7-5, 6-1), Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (7-5, 7-5), Hugo Dellien (4-6, 6-1, 6-4), and Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3)).

Alcaraz, ranked No 2, defeated Brazilian wild card Mateus De Carvalho Cardoso Alves (6-4, 6-4), Italian Fabio Fognini (6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4), Serb Dusan Lajovic (6-4, 7-6), and Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry (6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-0) in the previous rounds of the Rio Open.
