American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, reached the last 16 of the Italian Open by winning against Pole Magda Linette, the No 32 seed, 7-5, 6-3 at the Foro Italico in Rome.
Gauff, ranked No 3, will face Emma Raducanu next.
The 21-year-old American defeated Canadian qualifier Victoria Mboko (3-6, 6-2, 6-1) in the previous round of the Rome tournament.
During the second round of the Rome tournament, Linette, ranked No 32, won against Greek qualifier Maria Sakkari (1-6, 6-4, 6-1).
