Rome Masters: Berrettini wins first match on home soil since 2021

Italian Matteo Berrettini, the No 29 seed, won against Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 7-6 to move into the third round of the Rome Masters in the opening match of the day at the Foro Italico in Roma, on Saturday.
Berrettini, ranked No 30, quarter-finalist at his home tournament in 2020, won his first match in Rome since 2021, when he defeated John Millman to secure a place in the Round of 16. The Italian suffered from several injuries since then and has not been back at the Italian Open.
He will now face the winner of the match between Kazakh Alexander Bublik and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 6 seed.
Fearnley, ranked No 57, had deprived the Italian crowd from an Italian match-up as he defeated Italian wildcard Fabio Fognini (6-2, 6-3) in the first round.
