Rome Masters: Nakashima reaches third round

American Brandon Nakashima, the No 28 seed, moved into the third round of the Rome Masters after Australian Jordan Thompson withdrew before the match on Friday at the Foro Italico.

Nakashima, ranked No 29, will play the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 8 seed, and Finnish qualifier Otto Virtanen next.

Thompson, ranked No 41, edged out Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Italian Open.
