Shanghai Masters: Bu books spot in second round after Kecmanovic retirement

Chinese wildcard Yunchaokete Bu advanced to the second round of the Shanghai Masters when Serb Miomir Kecmanovic retired on Wednesday night at the Qi Zhong Stadium.

Bu, ranked No 187, led 6-7 (6), 6-2, 2-1 when Kecmanovic, ranked No 46, pulled out at the Qi Zhong Stadium on Wednesday night.

“When we shook hands, the opponent told me that he got a cold, so we didn’t finish the third set. I hope that he can recover very soon,” Bu said in his post-match press conference.

The 21-year-old Chinese will play No 26 seed Sebastian Korda next.
