Shanghai Masters: Rublev reaches quarter-finals, beats 12th seed Paul

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, beat American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Stadium on Wednesday.

Rublev, ranked No 7, will play Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 32 seed, next.

The Russian won against Frenchman Quentin Halys (6-4, 7-5) and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 31 seed (6-3, 6-0) in the previous rounds of the Shanghai tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, Paul, ranked No 12, won against Austrian Sebastian Ofner (6-3, 6-0) and edged out Frenchman Arthur Fils (6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-4).
