‘When is this going to stop?’ – Kyrgios hits back against ‘unacceptable’ racial taunt in Stuttgart
Nick Kyrgios accused a fan of yelling a racial slur at him during his defeat at the hands of Andy Murray on Saturday in Stuttgart.
After receiving a game penalty during his 7-6(5), 6-2 loss to Andy Murray in Stuttgart on Saturday, Nick Kyrgios told his side of the story.
At the start of the second set of his match against Andy Murray in Stuttgart, Nick Kyrgios received a game penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Australian had just verbally attacked a spectator after the change of sides, at 1-0 in favor of his opponent. He then called for the supervisor before finally returning to the match.
A few minutes after his defeat in the semi-finals, Nick Kyrgios took to his Instagram account to clarify what happened. The world No 78 explained that a fan’s taunting had triggered his emotions.
“When is this going to stop?” he wrote on Instagram. “Dealing with racial slurs from the crowd? I understand that my behavior isn’t the best all the time, but – ‘You little black sheep, shut up and play’ – little comments like these are not acceptable.”
“When I retaliate to the crowd I get penalised. This is not acceptable.”
