Stuttgart Open: Tsitsipas sets up Murray showdown in quarter-finals

World No 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas scored a straight sets win over Dominic Stricker to reach the last eight in Stuttgart

Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open with a straight sets win over Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker at Tennis Club Weissenhof on Thursday afternoon.

The world No 5 won 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 20 minutes in his first grass court match of the season.

The win sets up an exciting quarter-final clash against former world No 1 Andy Murray. The Brit had beaten seventh seed Alexander Bublik in straight sets earlier on Thursday.

Tsitsipas has beaten Murray in their only previous encounter, winning their first round encounter at the US Open in 2021 in five sets.
