Rune eases past Humbert to round out Basel quarter-finals

Dane Holger Rune advanced to the last eight of the Swiss Indoors by winning against French qualifier Ugo Humbert 6-4, 6-2 at the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel on Thursday evening.

Rune, ranked No 25, will play French qualifier Arthur Rinderknech next.

2022 has been a breakout season for the Dane, who improves to 31-23 on the season with his first two ATP titles, won at Munich and Stockholm. The teenager also reached his maiden major quarter-final at Roland-Garros in June.

He has 11 of 12 matches in October.

The 19-year-old Dane beat Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 7 seed (6-2, 7-5) in the previous round.

In the first round, Humbert, ranked No 103, defeated American Jenson Brooksby (6-1, 6-4).
