Tel Aviv Open: Cilic denies Thiem to reach quarter-finals

Croat Marin Čilić, the second seed, edged out Austrian wildcard and former US Open champion Dominic Thiem 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Tel Aviv Open at Expo Tel Aviv on Wednesday evening.

Čilić, ranked No 16, will play the winner of the match between Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, the No 5 seed, and qualifier Liam Broady next.

In the previous round of the Tel Aviv, Thiem, ranked No 173, edged out Serb Laslo Djere (5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-4).
