Frances Tiafoe beat Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Dallas Open at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Friday night.

19-year-old Michelsen gave Tiafoe a fright initially, breaking the top seed in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead in the opening set. However, Tiafoe managed to get his teeth into the match and win four straight games to claim the first set before running away with the second.

Despite being out-hit in the winners department by 22 to 15, it was a clean match from Tiafoe who only made five unforced errors across the one hour, 18 minute clash.

Tiafoe, ranked No 14, will play American Marcos Giron next.

In the previous round of the Dallas tournament, Michelsen, ranked No 75, won against qualifier Tennys Sandgren (6-3, 3-6, 6-1).
