Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo edged out Canadian wildcard Alexis Galarneau 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to move into the second round of the Toronto Masters at the Aviva Centre on Monday evening.

Cerundolo, ranked No 22, will face the winner of the match between American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, and Argentinian qualifier Diego Schwartzman next.
