Toronto Masters: Late break sees Kecmanovic into second round, plays Hurkacz next

Serb Miomir Kecmanovic advanced to the second round of the Toronto Masters by edging out Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-4 at the Aviva Centre on Monday night.

In what was a tight encounter, it wasn’t until the final game that Kecmanovic snuck a break of serve and gained ascendancy over Garin. With his opponent blasting winners from all areas of the court, Kecmanovic struggled on his own serve, offering up 16 break points across the match.

However, the Serbian was good under pressure, and will count himself lucky to have moved through to the second round.

Kecmanovic, ranked No 44, will play Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 15 seed, next.
