Toronto Masters: Paul books quarter-final against Alcaraz

No 12 seed Tommy Paul advanced to the quarter-finals of the Toronto Masters by winning against qualifier Marcos Giron 6-3, 6-2 at the Aviva Centre on Friday night.

Paul, ranked No 14, will face Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, Tommy Paul edged out Argentinian qualifier Diego Schwartzman (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and beat Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo (7-6 (2), 6-7 (2), 6-3).

Giron, ranked No 70, defeated Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (7-6 (4), 7-6 (6)) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 5 seed (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Canadian Open.
