Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 3 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Atlanta Open by winning against French lucky loser Adrian Mannarino 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 at the Atlantic Stadion on Friday evening.

De Minaur, ranked No 30, will play Belarusian Ilya Ivashka next.

The 2019 champion improved to 7-1 at Atlanta, and 30-16 on the season, as he reached his fourth semi-final of 2022 (and first on a hard court).

In his last appearance at Atlanta, in 2019, De Minaur was unstoppable. He lost a mere seven first-serve points throughout the week (116/123) and became the youngest winner in tournament history.

The Aussie made history from the service stripe that year.

De Minaur didn’t face a break point in his four matches and held in all 42 service games, and became only the third player since stats started being kept in 1991 to win a tournament without facing a break point (Haas 2007 Memphis, Isner 2017 Newport).

In the previous round, the Australian defeated James Duckworth (6-4, 6-4).

Mannarino, ranked No 78, beat German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk (6-3, 7-6 (7)) and American wildcard Andres Martin (7-5, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.

Atlanta ATP 250, other last eight matches (Atlantic Stadion, hard, USD 792.980, most recent results first):

  • Jenson Brooksby vs. John Isner
  • Brandon Nakashima vs. Frances Tiafoe
  • Ilya Ivashka beat Tommy Paul (5): 6-2, 3-6, 6-1
