Czech qualifier Tomas Machac defeated American wildcard Jack Sock 6-2, 6-4 to reach the second round of the US Clay Court Championships at River Oaks Country Club in Houston on Tuesday.

Machac, ranked No 138 in the world, will play American Marcos Giron, the No 7 seed, next.
