Hungarian Marton Fucsovics won the Winston-Salem Open final by beating Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Saturday night.

While he was heading toward an easy victory, leading 6-3, 5-1, the Hungarian suddenly lost momentum, dropping the next five games and finding himself serving to stay in the set at 5-6. He ultimately forced the Dutchman into a tie-break, which he won 7-3.

This is the third title of his career and his first in 2025. For Botic van de Zandschulp, it marks his third defeat in as many finals.

“I’m speechless, really. I’ve had a long career, a few trophies,” Fucsovics said. “Actually, this is my third. I’m 33 and a half years old. So I belong to the older generation, but I’m still here, winning an ATP 250.”

“So I will keep on fighting. I’m enjoying tennis right now. I’m going to play as long as I can. I love this sport, so it’s very emotional for me.”

Fucsovics, ranked No 91, defeated American Sebastian Korda, the No 11 seed (W/O), Spaniard Jaume Munar, the No 12 seed (7-5, 6-3), Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 14 seed (6-4, 6-3), Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the second seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) and Frenchman Hugo Gaston (6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Winston-Salem tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, Van De Zandschulp, ranked No 92, beat Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No 9 seed (6-4, 7-5), Chinese Yunchaokete Bu (6-3, 5-7, 6-3), Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 10 seed (0-6, 6-1, 6-4), Italian Matteo Arnaldi, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-3) and Australian Adam Walton (2-6, 7-5, 6-3).
