Wildcard Ryan Peniston won against Spaniard Pedro Martinez 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-3 to move into the last 8 of the Rothesay International Eastbourne on Thursday.
Peniston, ranked No 147, will face wildcard Jack Draper next.
Ahead of his victory, Ryan Peniston defeated Dane Holger Rune, the No 8 seed (4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1).
Martinez Portero, ranked No 49, benefited from the retirement of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (1-6, 7-6 (6), 0-0) in the previous round.
