Australian Open: Frech survives first-set bagel to make third round

Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 23 seed, moved into the third round of the Australian Open by winning against Russian Anna Blinkova 0-6, 6-0, 6-2 at Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

Frech, ranked No 26, will play the winner of the match between Japanese Moyuka Uchijima and Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 14 seed, next.

In the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season, the Pole beat Russian qualifier Polina Kudermetova (6-4, 6-4).

Blinkova, ranked No 73, edged out Australian wildcard Daria Saville (1-6, 6-4, 7-5) in the previous round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2025 season.
