Former US Open champion Sam Stosur leads the list of wildcards for the women’s main draw at January’s Australian Open.

She is joined by compatriots Storm Sanders, Daria Saville (formerly Gavrilova), and Maddison Inglis.

Sanders returns to the main draw for the first time in six years after a strong season in which she reached a new career-high ranking of world No 119.

Saville, who married fellow Aussie Luke this year, suffered with injury during 2021 but hopes to surpass her previous achievement of reaching the fourth round in Melbourne, which she managed in 2016 and 2017.

“I’ve had ten months off and was working really hard to get back, so I’m really excited to have a chance and the opportunity to play in the main draw of the Australian Open,” Saville told the tournament’s official website.

Inglis will be making her third appearance in the main draw.

The men’s wildcards will be announced at a later point.
