Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has officially pulled out of Roland-Garros on Tuesday, further delaying his comeback from knee surgery which has kept him off the tour in 2023.

Kyrgios, ranked No 26 in the world, underwent knee surgery after pulling out of the Australian Open in January. He was hoping to return in Indian Wells and Miami in March but his recovery has taken longer than planned.

Kyrgios’ withdrawal puts Taro Daniel into the main draw and also serves as good news for Dominic Thiem. The former world No 3 is now next in line to move into the main draw if another withdrawal takes place.

The current Wimbledon runner-up, who has signed up to play the UTS Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles in July, had planned to play the French Open for the first time since 2017. He is also scheduled to play an exhibition event in Denmark with Holger Rune later this month.

The Australian, who played his last official match in October 2022, is now expected to make his comeback during the grass court swing in June.
