Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu came from a set down to beat Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 and advance to the second round of Roland-Garros in Paris on Monday.
Playing in only her third main draw at the French Open, Andreescu needed two hours and 18 minutes to beat Bonaventure, who came through the qualifying event, in a rain-interrupted match on Court 7.
Now ranked 72nd in the world, Andreescu will face 14th seed Swiss Belinda Bencic in the second round. The Canadian has taken a break from the sport after Indian Wells in October and returned to the tour only in Stuttgart in April.
