American Hailey Baptiste defeated Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 7-6 (4), 6-1 to reach the last 16 of Roland-Garros.
Baptiste, ranked No 70, will play the winner of the match between No 7 seed Madison Keys and No 31 seed Sofia Kenin next.
The American won against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 23 seed (4-6, 6-3, 6-1) and Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino (6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Bouzas Maneiro, ranked No 68, beat American Emma Navarro, the No 9 seed (6-0, 6-1) and edged out American Robin Montgomery (6-4, 4-6, 7-5).
