Roland-Garros: Davidovich Fokina beats Van Assche to make third round

Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 29 seed, beat Frenchman Luca Van Assche 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (6) to advance to the third round of Roland-Garros.

Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 34, will face the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic, the No 3 seed, and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics next.

Ahead of his victory, the Spaniard won against French wildcard Arthur Fils (6-1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3).

Van Assche, ranked No 82, defeated Italian Marco Cecchinato (6-1, 6-1, 6-3) in the previous round.
