Roland-Garros: Ruud past Sonego in five-set fight, through to last 16

Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, defeated Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 32 seed, 6-2, 6-7 [3], 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of Roland-Garros at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris on Saturday evening.

Ruud, ranked No 8, will face Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 12 seed, next.

The Norwegian edged out Frenchman wildcard Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (6-7 [6], 7-6 [4], 6-2, 7-6) and won against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the French Open, while Sonego, ranked No 35, won against German Peter Gojowczyk (6-2, 6-2, 6-1) and Portuguese João Sousa (7-6 [4], 6-3, 6-4).
