Italian Martina Trevisan won against Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 17 seed, 6-2, 6-7 [3], 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of Roland-Garros at Stade Roland-Garros in Paris on Tuesday.
Trevisan, ranked No 59, will play the winner of the next match between No 18 seed Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens next.
The teenage Canadian needed a medical time-out in the first set for a foot injury.
The Italian beat Harriet Dart (6-0, 6-2), Pole Magda Linette (6-3, 6-2), Australian wildcard Daria Saville (6-3, 6-4) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (7-6 [10], 7-5) in the previous rounds, while world No 18 Fernandez won against Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic (6-0, 7-5), Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-3, 6-2), Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 14 seed (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) and American Amanda Anisimova, the No 27 seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-3).
