Roland-Garros: Win No 33, Grand Slam semi-final 3 for Swiatek after defeating Pegula

Iga Swiatek, the top seed, advanced to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros by beating American Jessica Pegula, the No 11 seed, 6-3, 6-2.

It was her 33rd win in a row – the third-best streak since the year 2000, behind Venus Williams (who got 35 wins in a row that year) and Serena Williams (34 wins in a row in 2013).

Swiatek, ranked No 1, will play No 20 seed Daria Kasatkina next.

The Pole – who turned 21 on Tuesday – won against Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko (6-2, 6-0), American Alison Riske (6-0, 6-2), Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (6-3, 7-5) and Chinese Qinwen Zheng (6-7 [5], 6-0, 6-2) in the previous rounds. Pegula, ranked No 11, won against Chinese Qiang Wang (6-2, 6-4), Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-1, 5-7, 6-4), Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, the No 24 seed (6-1, 7-6 [2]) and Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
