Vekić opens Day 3 at Roland-Garros with a routine win over Tubello to reach the second round

Donna Vekić, the 28-year-old Croatian, was the first player on either tour to qualify for the second round of Roland-Garros on Tuesday, beating French wild card Alice Tubello 6-3, 6-2 in the opening match of Day 3.

Vekić, ranked No. 72 in the world, broke twice a set times across the contest and never let her unseeded opponent into the match.

The result took the Croatian to 11-4 on clay in 2026. Vekić will face the winner of Japan’s Naomi Osaka, the 16th seed, against Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the second round.
