Alexander Zverev has been counted at more than 12,000 pre-serve bounces in five matches at this US Open, up to 25 on a single point, and says he has no idea why he does it or what makes him stop. Karen Khachanov, beaten by him in the semifinal, says it annoys a lot of players and that the chair umpire should be dealing with it. The rules set a 25-second clock between points and say nothing at all about bounces.
