Jessica Pegula‘s US Open resurgence continued on Monday, as the American claimed a dominant 6-3, 6-3 victory over Barbora Krejcikova to secure her spot in the semifinals. In a performance that highlighted her clinical efficiency, the No. 4 seed dismantled the Czech’s challenge in a match lasting just over an hour and a half.

Pegula will now face the winner of the quarterfinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Marketa Vondrousova in the semifinals.

The match unfolded with Pegula dictating play from the baseline, particularly on Krejcikova’s serve. The American capitalized on her great start in each set and on her opponent’s low first-serve percentage (42%), breaking her five times over the two sets. Krejcikova, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion and the 2022 US Open doubles winner, struggled to find her rhythm and was unable to convert crucial opportunities, managing only two breaks of her own against Pegula’s serve (on three opportunities).

Dominant Pegula

Statistics from the match underscored Pegula’s command. She was far more effective on her serve, winning an impressive 71% of her first-serve points compared to a more scattered performance from Krejcikova. While both players were aggressive – Pegula hitting 17 winners to Krejcikova’s 14 – the American maintained a good combination of controlled aggression and consistency.

For Krejcikova, the defeat ends a gritty tournament run that saw her battle through a marathon fourth-round match against Taylor Townsend. Having spent over eight hours on court en route to the quarterfinals, the physical toll may have been a factor against a fresher Pegula.

This win marks another milestone for Pegula, who has now reached her second consecutive US Open semifinal after a runner-up finish last year. Having already secured three singles titles this season and becoming the fourth player on the tour to register more than 40 wins in 2025, she is proving that her success at this major is no fluke.
