US Open: De Minaur makes last 16
Alex De Minaur benefited from the abandonment of Daniel Altmaier (6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-4, 2-0) on Saturday evening

Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 8 seed, moved into the last 16 of the US Open when German Daniel Altmaier retired on Saturday evening at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
De Minaur, ranked No 8, led 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-4, 2-0 when Altmaier, ranked No 56, pulled out at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Saturday evening.
Altmaier had been playing for over 10 hours in his previous matches and required two medical timeouts to treat a thigh strain during the match against de Minaur.
The Australian will face Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi next.
