US Open: Eubanks overcomes bagel to make second round

American Christopher Eubanks, the No 28 seed, advanced to the second round of the US Open by edging out Soonwoo Kwon 6-3, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Monday night.

It was a strong performance from Eubanks for the most part, excluding a lapse in concentration which saw the home favourite drop the third set to love. Outside of that, however, the American made 47 winners and served at a high percentage, executing well to make the second round at his first slam as a seed.

Chris “The Rocket” Eubanks, ranked No 30, will play the winner of the match between Quentin Halys and wildcard Benjamin Bonzi next.
