US Open: Galan builds on that win over Tsitsipas and now reaches third round

Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan moved into the third round of the US Open by defeating Australian Jordan Thompson (6-3, 2-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Wednesday.

Galan, ranked No 94, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Hungarian Marton Fucsovics next.

The Colombian edged out Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 4 seed (6-0, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous round of the Flushing Meadows.

In the previous round of the Flushing Meadows, Thompson, ranked No 102, overhauled Italian Lorenzo Sonego (2-6, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4).
