US Open: Rybakina through after Tomljanovic withdraws with injury

Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, moved into the third round of the US Open after Australian Ajla Tomljanovic withdrew before the match at the US Open in New York on Wednesday.

Tomljanovic cited a right arm injury as the reason for her withdrawal, making the difficult call to forfeit the match after recently winning her first match of the year on Monday.

Rybakina, ranked No 4, will play Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 30 seed, next.

In the previous round of the tournament, the Kazakh defeated Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (6-2, 6-1). Tomljanovic, ranked No 127, edged out Hungarian Panna Udvardy (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) during the first round of the US Open.
