Where else can you see a tennis player walk right to the far right of the deuce court, rocket down a thunderbolt of a serve with no faults in hand, follow it up with a deft dropshot, and win triple the points for it?

At UTS Los Angeles, of course, when Gael “La Monf” Monfils and Alexander “The Bublik Enemy” Bublik are on court.

“I have no options, with one serve, I have to go for it,” was Bublik’s explanation of his outrageous bonus card theatrics.

The match was full to the brim with entertainment, with underarm serves, dancing celebrations and leaping smashes from the very first quarter. At one point, The Bublik Enemy was exclusively serving underarm slices, while Olivier Giroud was talking about his hair in the commentary box.

Between quarters, Giroud was even gracious enough to offer La Monf some tips about ageing gracefully:

“Give me your hairdresser’s number”

“We’re both 36, dying the hair makes you seem younger. Maybe you should try it,” the French football star suggested to Monfils during the mid-match interview.

“Give me your hairdresser’s number, maybe I will if my wife allows,” responded Monfils.

In terms of the score, it wasn’t pretty for Bublik. La Monf may be the Kazakh’s senior, but he gave him the run around on the scoreboard, winning the match 3-0. Naturally, the final quarter delivered three consecutive tweeners, with the fourth being hit long.

That’s tennis like never before.
