“I’ve got nothing!” Coach Kyrgios unable to save Tiafoe from The Bublik Enemy at UTS Los Angeles

Having Nick Kyrgios courtside may have proved more distraction than help for Frances Tiafoe, who has crashed out of UTS Los Angeles on Saturday evening

Alexander “The Bublik Enemy” Bublik has spoiled the party at UTS Los Angeles, sending American Frances Tiafoe and coach Nick “King” Kyrgios out of the tournament with a “disgusting” straight sets victory on Saturday evening.

It was an underwhelming coaching debut for Kyrgios, who took the better part of the first quarter to become familiarised with the UTS rules, having finally graced the Dignity Health Sports Park with his presence partway through Day 2 of the tournament.

A combined effort from Tiafoe and nearby members of the audience got King Kyrgios up to speed with the lay of the land, but it was the Bublik Enemy who was racing along in this Group B match. The Kazakh struck ace after ace, curling his balls around the net post and generally striking a plethora of “disgusting” shots —Kyrgios’s preferred adjective of choice courtside, used in a positive sense.

Some of the soundbites coming from Kyrgios’s corner included gems such as:

“Oh my gosh, it’s disgusting!”

“You lose this point, we’re in trouble. I’ve got nothing.”

“Uncoachable.”

For Big Foe, however, he put it aptly when he explained in his mid-match interview, “I’ve got to not worry about him being here, and focus on winning.”

Unfortunately for those wanting to see more of the charismatic duo, Big Foe also had nothing in the face of Bublik’s onslaught, going down 3-0 and giving The Bublik Enemy a chance of qualifying for the Final 4 tomorrow.
