Raducanu appeals to Wimbledon to “fix” electronic line calling after contentious point against Sabalenka

Brit Emma Raducanu urged Wimbledon on Friday to improve the electronic line calling system that the tournament has adopted this year.

Raducanu bowed out of the Championships after losing to world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka (7-6 (6), 6-4) in the third round. The match witnessed intense exchanges to the partisan crowd’s delight.

The local girl pressed Sabalenka hard and found herself dominating the proceedings at times. The fierce match-up was, however, stained by a contentious call in the seventh game of the opening set.

Sabalenka fired a legitimate serve as per the automated line calling, but Raducanu suggested otherwise and reached out to the chair umpire to no avail.

She addressed it during the post-match press conference and asserted that the decision was wrong.

“I mean, that call was, like, for sure out,” the Brit said. “It’s kind of disappointing, the tournament here, that the calls can be so wrong, but for the most part they’ve been okay. It’s just, like, I’ve had a few in my other matches, too, that have been very wrong. So yeah, I don’t know. Hopefully they can kind of fix that.”
