Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz lifted the Wimbledon trophy by beating seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in a thrilling final on Centre Court,1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Sunday.

Alcaraz snaps Djokovic’s run of 45 consecutive wins on Centre Court and 34 consecutive wins at Wimbledon with a crowning achievement that saw him hit 18 winners in a sensational fifth set as he claimed his second Grand Slam singles title.

Alcaraz, ranked No 1, defeated Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (6-0, 6-2, 7-5), Frenchman Alexandre Muller (6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-3), Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 25 seed (6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-5), Italian Matteo Berrettini (3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3), Dane Holger Rune, the No 6 seed (7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-4) and Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Djokovic, ranked No 2, defeated Argentinian Pedro Cachin (6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (4)), Australian Jordan Thompson (6-3, 7-6 (4), 7-5), Swiss Stan Wawrinka (6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (5)), Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 17 seed (7-6 (6), 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4), Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 7 seed (4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3) and Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (4)).
