ALERT : Wimbledon, Anisimova advances to last four for the first time

American Amanda Anisimova, the No 13 seed, won against Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 7-6 (9) to reach the last four of Wimbledon on Tuesday evening.

Anisimova, ranked No 12, will play Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the American beat Czech Linda Noskova, the No 30 seed (6-2, 5-7, 6-4), Hungarian Dalma Galfi (6-3, 5-7, 6-3), Mexican Renata Zarazua (6-4, 6-3) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-0, 6-0).

Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 50, advances to the quarter-finals of a major tournament for the second time this season. She won against Englishwoman Sonay Kartal (7-6 (3), 6-4), Japanese Naomi Osaka (3-6, 6-4, 6-4), American Ashlyn Krueger, the No 31 seed (7-6 (4), 6-4) and Australian Ajla Tomljanovic (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
