Wimbledon: Bencic books spot in last 16 via nail-biting clash against Cocciaretto

Swiss Belinda Bencic reached the last 16 of Wimbledon by edging out Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7) at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday.

Bencic, ranked No 35, will face the winner of the match between Zeynep Sonmez and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 18 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Swiss beat American Alycia Parks (6-0, 6-3) and French qualifier Elsa Jacquemot (4-6, 6-1, 6-2).

Cocciaretto, ranked No 116, won against American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed (6-2, 6-3) and American Katie Volynets (6-0, 6-4) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
