Wimbledon: Bouzkova into third round as Kontaveit’s singles career ends

No 32 seed Marie Bouzkova advanced to the third round of Wimbledon by winning against Estonian Anett Kontaveit 6-1, 6-2 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday.

Bouzkova, ranked No 33, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 5 seed, next.

In the previous round of The Championships, Marie Bouzkova defeated Swiss qualifier Simona Waltert (6-1, 6-4).

Kontaveit, ranked No 81, beat Italian qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini (6-4, 6-4) during the first round of The Championships.

She had already said that Wimbledon would be her last tournament before retirement, and will compete in the mixed doubles with Emil Ruusuvuori.
