Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 19 seed, won against Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 7-5, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Monday.
Samsonova, ranked No 19, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the No 8 seed, and Dane Clara Tauson, the No 23 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Russian beat Australian Daria Kasatkina, the No 16 seed (6-2, 6-3), Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva (6-2, 6-1) and Australian Maya Joint (6-3, 6-2).
Bouzas Maneiro, ranked No 62, defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (6-1, 2-6, 6-3), American Sofia Kenin, the No 28 seed (6-1, 7-6 (4)) and German qualifier Ella Seidel (6-3, 3-2 ret.) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
