Wimbledon: Sonego through to third round
Lorenzo Sonego beat Hugo Gaston 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday and will play the winner of the match between Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis and Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the second seed, in the next round
Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 27 seed, beat Frenchman Hugo Gaston 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the third round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday.
Sonego, ranked No 54, will play the winner of the match between Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis and Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the second seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the Italian won against American Denis Kudla (6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2).
Gaston, ranked No 66, won against Australian Alexei Popyrin (6-2, 4-6, 0-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3) in the previous round.
