Canada’s Rebecca Marino reached the last four of the WTA $125K Abierto Tampico by defeating Australian Maya Joint, the No 8 seed, 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday.
The Canadian has now won eight matches in a row after winning the ITF title in Canada last week.
Marino, ranked No 118, will face the winner of the match between Russian Anna Blinkova, the No 5 seed, and American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko next.
The 33-year-old Canadian won against Mexican wildcard Jessica Hinojosa Gomez (6-1, 6-0) and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 3 seed (7-6 (5), 6-4) ahead of her win today.
Earlier in the week, Joint, ranked No 110, won against French wildcard Elsa Jacquemot (6-3, 6-4) and American Hanna Chang (6-1, 6-2).
