No 8 seed Rebecca Marino advanced to the last four of the Abierto Tampico by beating No 3 seed Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 at Centro Libanes Mexicano de Tampico on Friday night.
Marino, ranked No 72, will face Pole Magda Linette, the No 5 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, Rebecca Marino won against Russian Varvara Flink (6-3, 7-5) and Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (7-6 (4), 6-7 (8), 6-3).
Fernandez, ranked No 40, defeated American Elizabeth Mandlik (7-6 (8), 6-2) and Chinese Xiaodi You (6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
