Andreescu reaches Bad Homburg final after Halep withdrawal

Canadian Bianca Andreescu reached the final of the Bad Homburg Open after Romanian Simona Halep, the No 4 seed, withdrew before the match with a sore neck on Friday afternoon.

Andreescu, ranked No 64, will play the winner of the match between No 9 seed Alize Cornet and Caroline Garcia next.

In the previous rounds, the 22-year-old Canadian won against Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 7 seed (6-3, 6-1), qualifier Katie Swan (6-4, 6-4) and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the top seed (6-4, 6-1).

Halep, ranked No 19, beat Czech Katerina Siniakova (4-6, 6-3, 6-4), Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (6-0, 6-3) and American Amanda Anisimova, the No 6 seed (6-2, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
