Arango gets retirement from Jones at Merida Open
Emiliana Arango advanced to the Merida quarter-finals when Francesca Jones retired in the third set of their match on Thursday. Arango will face either Rebecca Sramkova or Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Qualifier Emiliana Arango moved into the last eight of the Mérida Open Akron when qualifier Francesca Jones retired on Thursday evening.
Arango, ranked No 133, led 3-6, 6-3, 3-4 when Jones called it quit.
The Colombian will next play the winner of the match between Slovak Rebecca Sramkova and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 3 seed.
Arango previously ousted Argentine lucky loser Maria Lourdes Carle (6-2, 6-3).
In the previous round, Jones — ranked No 136 — got a retirement from Egyptian Mayar Sherif (6-4, 3-0).
