Austin Open: Shibahara moves into quarter-finals

Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara edged out Australian Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to move into the last eight of the Austin Open at the Westwood Country Club on Wednesday night.
Shibahara, ranked No 148, will play Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic next.
In the previous round of the Austin tournament, the Japanese won against Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).
Birrell, ranked No 76, defeated Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 4 seed (7-6 (5), 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Austin tournament.
